Where to purchase the clip on battery back for the 2610?

I've seen an example of the one for the Navigator II but it is an arm and a leg sort of price.

(£120 +) and BMW can't deliver them in UK currently!!!

Is there one for Garmin 2610 and is it similiar, the same, inter-compatible etc.

...part number or source for any such item .......any body?

Bu**er!

For the price of the BMW item I could buy up enough of Maplin's
neat little solar cells for the damn thing to work by the light of the moon!

I suspected BMW had a corner on this item to enable them to charge so much for a thermoplastic moulding and a couple of terminals.

Whilst it may not look quite the same Maplin do battery holders (type it into the product search).
You could them attach with gaffer tape;)

it may be a bit naff, but why not construct, or get someone else to construct a rechargable battery pack inside a weatherproof case that has a garmin type power lead coming out of it- sould only cost £10-15

Chris G's suggestion is excellent.

The 26xx series GPSR's will accept a very wide range of voltages, this means considerable freedom to use the battery you want to power it. I thought once about taking the 'beans' out of the beanbag car mount, stiching some Velcro tape onto the fabric, and using an old ELT battery from an aircraft (it's about the size of a carton of cigarettes) attached to the bottom of the beanbag mount. This would have been good for 50 hours at full power, but a tad cumbersome to haul around. I gave up on this when I thought carefully about my past history of use of the SP III, and realized that the only time I ever used it away from the moto was when I was sitting in a cafe or restaurant, trying to figure out where to go next. For those purposes, I can carry the 26xx AC adapter with me, it's simpler and lighter than a battery pack would be.

Be aware that the screen backlight on the 26xx is a real power hog. It's the brightest screen backlight of any Garmin GPSR. If you plan to run it on batteries, keep the screen brightness all the way down when you are not actually using it.

PanEuropean.
