clothes for the mrs in italy in July

I am the wife and we are ging to france in july, hoping it will be hot.We have bought textile my friend and I thinking it will be ok.... untill last night, I was talking to a paramedic and asked her which would be better. Guess what her reply was....... LEATHER , all the time , she said that bikers had a much better chance if in an accident with leather. Now decisions, decisions what to do ?

In which case, I hope you are also taking a defibulator, a radiation suit, a reflective aluminium blanket (lots of volcanic action recently), a long steel channel for crossing possible earthquake chasms, a stab vest, a syringe of adrenalin, snake serum, a splint, a team of doctors, a sharp knife to cut your arm off if it gets stuck in a rock, a long pair of curved tweezers for removing fish bones from throat, floatation armbands and a whistle for possible ferry sinkage or tsunami, a tin hat for debris falling off satelites, a wooden cross in case of vampire attack.

Take warm textiles in case its cold. When it gets too hot, strap them on the top of your panniers and wear ordinary clothing.
You will ride safer because you feel unsafe and you will see more scenery because you are going slower, and you can walk around lovely little villages in comfort.
What you dont want is to get heatstroke, pass out and crash and get killed.

Steve, Im doing the same with my Mrs but are going to France for ten days in August. Me and a mate rode to Crete last year and we both bought Knox body armour tops. You have all the body armour and its fixed via a netting type material. £120.00 from Heine gerrick. The best bit of kit ive bought as all i did was wear this next to my skin and wore a t shirt over it with leather pants. I would do the same this time with my wife but her boobs are too big to fit under the body armour. Ill probably go for a really light material jacket for her but leather pants. Sweaty i know but much safer. Good luck. Eggsy

+1 for the body armour t-shirt and leather trousers in very hot weather. I'd go with flip-open or open helmet ... and a warm fleece, waterproof over jacket and same trousers for the mountains.

Guess what her reply was....... LEATHER , all the time

That is no news.

When riding alone I used to wear my leather suit (when I was still able to fit into it... :nenau ) all the time but is higly unpractical, not to mention bloody hot in summer.

I mean... maybe you want to stop and have lunch somewhere without dripping sweat all over the place.
Risk analisys as someone said earlier.

thanks all

great advice Ill keep with the textile and cotton knickers !!!!
