For Sale Clothings for sale - am I old fashioned?

This is true. I bought a pair of John Doe cargo pants a few years ago that rapidly became my favourite trousers. So much so, that I wore them to holes. So, recently I bought the exact same ones in the same size…………and they didn’t fit??!!
I called John Doe to bitch and they told me they’d changed the cut to a more “skinny” version??!! Apparently to appease the hipster fraternity!!
yes

I had a Badlands jacket in L size but was getting a bit tight.
Decided to get the Kodiak - so ordered an XL
even smaller than thev previous Badlands.
Had to get a 3XL

And yet an XL in US sizes is equivalent to a small family tent...😆

It varies by manufacturer and by garment cut, especially with jackets I've found. I'm a little over 5'8", 34 waist and about 42 chest. In Rukka gear I take size 52 jacket which fits perfectly. Klim seem to be on the larger size and what others sell as Large (52 to 54), I take their 50 or medium size. Trousers seems to be a similar story.

Gloves are a minefield as I have large hands. I normally take a large in some makes or XL in others, which equates to about a size 11/12 but some Held gloves (Air & Dry for example) in an XL size fit my palms perfectly but (middle finger being a full 4 inches!) whereas RST gloves all seem to be true to size for me across their glove range.

I think you either have to be familiar with the clothing in the first place (maybe having tried the item on) or have to rely on feedback on sizes. It does help when members selling their kit, state their own size and corresponding fit.
