Im uggtek on thumpertalk.pm me there
can the gearbox be removed whilst being attached to the swingarm to get to the clutch, to change it?

if so how , n can i realign the drive shaft if its not moved...
am tryin to cut corners , so to get at clutch , and not have to remove swing arm pivot bolts. ye know the ones that have to be torqued up on reassembly.

obviously ill have to support the gearbox as to not bend the clutch push rod
so the whole rear end has to be lifted ,and fekin abs removed .

is this possible , or am i makin it hard for me'sen in the long run?

I think you are trying to make life hard for yourself.
It will be easier to remove final drive & swingarm to get at clutch.
Easiest way is to remove rear wheel, final drive, swingarm, exhaust & all other bits & bobs, make sure you don,t miss the little bolt inside the rear of the airbox. You then support rear of subframe by slinging it from garage rafter or similar, remove mounting bolts, except for two at the top, which you need to slacken & then raise the rear of the subframe until you have clear access to the gearbox. Be careful when you are doing this that you don't catch/snag anything.
Then you will be free to remove gearbox & change clutch.
Re-assembly is reversal of dis-assembly process.

Simple i always remove the gearbox/finaldrive as one unit - look HERE for the pictures, from post 22.
Pull it off by hand, if your by yourself re-insert with a trolley jack underneth to slide it home. No need for the trolley jack if there are two of you.

What do you mean about re-aligning the shaft ? you've no need to as you haven't disturbed it. ?

Your having a laugh :D:D:augie

As a one man opperation for someone that obviously hasn't tackled this sort of job before, I would still recommend removing swingarm. It doesn't take that long & will make everything easier handled, it also gives oppertunity to inspect pivot bearings.

I agree with Steptoe. I have recently had to renew the input drive shaft and clutch on my 1150GSA.
I had no previous experience with BMW's, but found the process of getting the gearbox out relatively easy.
Removing the gearbox and transmission together was the best approach. It helped having some extra leverage. :thumb
I was on my own with just a trolley jack for company.
Read up about it first. There are plenty of threads with step by step intructions with pictures.

I have removed the gearbox a couple of times and never removed the swing arm first. You are correct in that you have to be carefull not to bend the pushrod but it is do able for the average chap. If you can get a hand to slot it back together then that is a big help but not essential.

Yeh Ugg With having done the bearings recently I'd say that is an okay call

Personally on a bike over say 30,000 miles that I have no history for I prefer to go for the strip down so I can see what state everything else is in? Lube the shaft splies and check the UJ's for wear~binding

It only takes another 30 minutes to slip the bits off and means you can check the gearbox ~swingarm gaitor rubber too!
