Hi everyone,

Getting used to all this forum thing now - sometimes wonder if you all have jobs! Anyhow, perhaps someone can help me out with the problem below.

Just fitted a Remus Y piece and I thought WOW - that makes the bike rattle a lot. So put the CAT back on and rattle still present. Only at idle with clutch out. Dip clutch and it dissappears. Revs up with clutch out in neutral and is seems to dissappear but this may just be because of engine noise.

Am I right in thinking that the clutch release bearing is at fault. Bike was fine a week ago when I last used it. Coincidence huh! I assume it's time for a new clutch etc. Unless.....any of you have any other ideas.

Also, can any of you recommend a decent BMW guy (not main dealer) in cheshire/shropshire who can do the works.

Cheers.

Before you start panicking, how bad is the rattle really? Since the boxer engines are fitted with a dry clutch, they all do that sir, some more than others.

clutch rattle

It wasn't there last time I used the bike or when I went to France on it last month. The rattle has developed and it sounds terrible. I know the clutch will rattle a bit without the lever pulled in but this is bad. HELP.

First of all, which model is it and its year and mileage.
Has it had a clutch change at all and can you hear/feel any symptons on the move?.

1150GS, year 2000, 53,000kms. Clutch is very short. It is at the end of its travel on the lever. By this I mean the last 10mm of travel takes up the point between complete engagement and dis-engagement.
This is my first bike so I'm not too sure what all this means.
It has never had a clutch as I've all the previous bills from BMW fro the 1st owner.

Clutch sounds shagged - that's typical of rattly splines. If it's biting in the last 10mm of travel, it's getting close to replacement time.

The 1150s have a design weakness in the clutch in that they can wear out the splines in the friction plate and the gearbox input shaft causing a rattling noise.Mine was bad and i had to change the clutch/fit 2nd hand gearbox at 54k miles. Not saying you definetly have the same problem but it's possible.
Are you getting any strange smells from the clutch and is the clutch fluid level OK.
