My 1150 00 with 110000 km slipped today while driving at 160 km/h (it is really hot here) .I know that i should change the clutch but i an leavinf for a 7000 km trip next week.... if i drive without big accelerations will it hold? the last chenge was done at 80k from the previous owner and it has navar slipped again

Are you sure it was clutch slip?

Not knowing what they changed I'd expect a clutch to last more than 30k kilometers. It could just have been the heat, are you going someone hotter or colder than Greece?

Have you checked the usual items such as the lever not catching against the guard and the reservoir not being too full (it fills up as the clutch wears).

well i checked the level and when the handlebar is straight you can not see any air. so a took out a small quantity .. i will chack again .

Oh the trip is going to be Greece-Italy-France-Spain_MOROCCO and back the same way....

i hope i dont return it the back of a van :)

unfortunately the fluid that i took of did not make thngs better, still slips at 5000 rpm with 5th or 6th

If I was you I'd get it changed before you go. (making sure it was the clutch first). Was the whole clutch changed the last time?

It probably isn't relevant in this case, but was the fluid clear or black?

probably

not what you want to hear, but if it is slipping now and you've planned such a big trip I would get it done before it gives up in the middle of nowhere and leaves you stranded.

Clutches

take off the starter motor and have qalook at the clutch through the hole,
you will then see if there's any oil on the plate. If so get it done easier than
trying to sort it whilst away and also pweace of mind.
Enjoy your trip sounds ghreat.

Your bike has done 110k Kms - you've got clutch slip.

I wouldn't ride it further than I could walk home.

Morocco - you're having a laugh!

It's up to you.

You asked the question - after clutch starts to slip, how many miles have I got?

This is a question similar to: How long is a piece of string?

The answer is, it is determined entirely by the rider and his clumsiness/ cack handedness.

Thus, My brother had a car with a slipping clutch. He drove sympathetically, using the lower gears more, & backing off the throttle a little if it slipped. He drove it for two years like this.

I have done similar in a car for six months.

On my last 1100, clutch slipped at speed for a year before I changed it. this included a trip of over 4,000 miles round Europe in 8 days.

A cack handed person will keep the accelerator open when the clutch slips, and maybe get another kilometre or so before clutch expires completely.

So, the answer is: It's up to you!

I often wonder why people replace clutches when they slip.

It's a well know fact that they cure themselves, same as worn out brake pads.

this seems to me to be as likely as the clutch being worn out, if not more so.

degree of cack handedness is not an issue if it is the case, but how fast the oil's leaking.

Precicely what was wrong with mine. But still rode it for a year like that.
Oil exiting gearbox via release seal.

So no one has had to replace a rooted flywheel after driving too much with a slipping clutch? Just adds to the final cost from the parts supplier/mechanic.
Always look into slipping clutch as soon as possible.

Had the same problem, decided to replace the clutch after having problems around 2 times on short inland trips (Γύρος Ελικώνα :) ) and since I was planning to tour around Tuscany.
All went well for the bike, not for my pocket though :P :)

haha very funny answers guys:)

Ok i think i'm going to change the damn thing finally...

cheers to all and when (if) i get back i will post some pictures :beerjug:

OK i changed the clutch yesterday . It took me about 6 hours and a friend o mine to pull out the gearbox. The steptoe tips really helped!!!

The bad news is that trying to pull out the gear indicator plug it separated in two pieces and i am now searching for its bits...:augie
I also managed to put the diaphragm spring the wrong way in and the actuator rod did not move at all so i had to take the gearbox out again....:blast
And finally i over tightened the clutch screws because i was reading the WRONG PAGE of the manual....:blast do you think that this will be a problem? (i tightened them with the correct torque afterwards)
