If you use car type oil which has additives which I think are called friction modifiers, then yes, that will mess with the operation of a wet multiplate motorcycle type clutch, which is why you should only ever use oil stated as suitable for motorcycles.

It certainly did on my old Aprilia Falco. I can't remember the exact details now, but I used motorcycle oils of the recommended viscosity. One was semi-synthetic and the other fully synthetic, and with one of these oils (think it might have been fully synthetic) the clutch slipped under power. Not sure about the GS though.
 
Yes it can you should use the recommened type and viscocity as suggested in the manual especially careful of modifiers or lack of, which can cause damage

Early Falcos/Milles and bikes with the V990 motor could not tolerate fully synthetic without clutch slip, later bikes had a modified clutch oil jet which allowed both synth and semi synth to be used .

On most wet clutch bikes the problem is caused by using car type oils with additives that are not suitable for a wet clutch
