Anyone else noticed this?

CN EU 2008 (FID 283) - the hamlet I live in has a marker at N45.60644 E0.74587

CN EU 2009 (Upd) (FID 379) - there is no longer a marker, therefore you cant route to it!

Several other places near me have suffered the same fate!
Are YOU still on the map?

John

I sent Garmin a snotty email and told them I would not be buying their unit next time if the map data was dummed-down to please a few.

They replied
"I apologize for the mapping errors and we will do everything possible to correct the issues in a future update.
I will forward your error report on to our data vendor, Navteq, who handles the classification and attribution of the roads and POI’s that we use in our products. I will also forward this on to our Automotive Cartography team for them to look over as well. Perhaps this will help to expedite the fix. Once your error report has been reviewed and corrected, the change will appear in a future Garmin map update."

So, does that mean we can expect the TomTom maps to go the same way?

Go the same way?

Do you mean polite and confirming that they are trying to do something to help you with the map maker, Navteq?

Err.. as in, TT use the same map data (Navteq), so one assumes all the places/waypoints will disappear on future TT updates. No? Unless Navteq maintain more than one mapset... the Garmin flavour, etc.

Although they point the finger at Navteq, I would have thought the original complaints about multiple places of the same name, would have been made to Garmin, not Navteq. Soooo the update would have been Garmin driven\requested. Yes?

Ah, now I am with you. I have never owned a TomTom, so had no idea who supplied their mapping.

Of course your easiest route is to raise the issue with Garmin and it's right that you do so, they after all sell a combined product. Their reply does seem reasonable and, at least they have taken up your complaint in a civilised way.

Navteq can be found Here and have a map error reporting page. Give them a try, too. It can only help.
