All of a sudden I've started getting these type of emails from CNN (attached below). Is anybody else?

They started coming to my Yahoo account, addressed properly, but the spam blocker there sorts them out no problems.

I'm also getting them to my PlusNet account, but not addressed to me, ie [email protected], but [email protected], XXX being the same a bit like [email protected]. Almost like postmaster@ etc.

I haven't signed up for these. I've checked them as Spam with PlusNet and they're still coming through.

I've tried to go onto their website to unsubscribe, but it asks for a log in. So I input the address they've been sending to and hit "forgot password" and it comes up that I'm not registered.

Now, is it something CNN are doing to be a right pain in the arse, or is someone spoofing them?

My next e-mail is going to PlusNet about their crap Spam filter...........:spitfire

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

That's better

ps. ZoneAlarm & AVG, all up to date

I've been getting these in my Gmail account for about a week now - 2 or 3 a day but they are all getting stopped by the spam filter. Nothing that I have registered for so suspect it's someone spoofing CNN.

This has got to be the quickest any pc support person in any capacity has ever come back to me!

I rasied a ticket thru the support bit on PlusNet (I ain't clicking no links, I'm pissed, so it's straight to the "None of that answers my question" bit) about 5 minutes ago.

Got this reply just now & it's been escalated - by which I reckon they'll go in & put a block on any CNN stuff to my address. I don't care, as long as it sorted :D

Dear Mr XXX,
Thanks for getting in touch.

I can confirm these emails are common spam. We are aware of this issue and are working with Postini to resolve this as soon as possible. We have made an announcement on our Service Status page as per the following page:

http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1217927640.htm

In the meantime, as with all spam, please ignore and delete these messages and do not click any links contained within them to ensure your computers security is not affected.

Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please check our Spam Protection Guide to find out how you can combat unwanted emails:

http://www.plus.net/support/security/spam/spam_protection_guide.shtml

Kind regards,

Kevin Bromley

Whoever's doing it is very very good, as the pages are exactly the same as the CNN ones - altho it wouldn't surprise me if it was CNN just trying a different way of advertising

That or whoever's doing it assumes people will try to log in & use the same passwords for everything else. Or the links on the news items take you somewhere else.

Anyhoo, getting sorted, which is a plus (see what I did there :D) as I was expecting a load of excuses :thumb2

Been getting them too, but you will note the reply-to addresses are different each time, which is how they're getting round the filters. Thought it was just me!

If you're still getting them why not let CNN know:thumb2

I had found their site and got to that page, but to be honest, I reckon they'd ignore it and PlusNet will have a better contact there.

I had googled the CEO's name tho and was about to starting send him e-mails :mmmm

Yep, I've been getting these too... to my 'default' plusnet account, which I never use. Lets hope they block them soon, cos they're a bloomin nuisence - I'm getting several per day.

Raise a ticket, like I did. The more people do, the quicker they'll sort it. It must be fairly high already for me to get that repy so quickly................

Have you tried finding an e-mail address for their PR department? I couldn't. Not very PR friendly...............
