I've just got my hands on a very expensive co2 sensor head. I'd like to use it for setting the air screws on my 1100. Does anybody know the correct co2 reading for the 1100?

Exhaust gas analysis

Sorry but you need more than this if your bikes equipped with a cat. You need a 4-gas exhaust gas analyser and most technicians would be looking at the CO reading and not the Co2.

If its is of any use you could try getting a reading of at least 1.5 minimum for CO. much less and the old girl will be too lean (I'm sticking my kneck out here you watch 64 GS'ers all disagree).

If you are cat. less then 1.5 should still be ok (minimum). In an ideal world free of emission rules then 3-3.5 would be ideal and the engine would run sweeter, cooler and there would be probably a much cleaner transition from idle to acceleration.

Please remember that you don't ride around at tick over, only on the overrun and if the fuellings lean then expect lots of popping and banging from your buggle.

I don't know what you have equipment wise when you say a Co2 head sounds like a Halfords cock it up in one easy lesson piece of kit. No reference to your abilities intended.

Mechanic,

Thanks for that. My bike is a 95 1100 with no cat to worry about.

The sensor is a Honeywell carbon dioxide measuring device (approx £400 for the sensor) it gives an rs232 Output so I can use my laptop to read it. I had an idea that I may be able to use it to set the low running of the bike.

Algae and water from Fords can affect Co2 readings, so it is best to alter them before any off road trips:D :D :D

Alter them before?

Andy, I thought it was baked beans that caused flatulance.
By the way Co2 is carbon dioxide not H2S hydrogen sulphide, thats the gas that produces the rotten egg smell. But both gases do the same thing to the human body, preventing the transition of enregy in the body. Thats why farting in bed and holding your girlfriends head below the duvet is dangerous...she might clout you one.
