Coil puller

Time to do my tappets.
Didn't have a coil puller in the toolkit.
Ordered one from BMW & picked up today.
It doesn't fit-too loose.

Part no 12 13 7 673 248

Is this the right one for an 02 1150 GSA single spark.
The man at BMW said it was right, or am I going very wrong?

Any help appreciated.

Single spark and trying to pull the coils off? You sure - the single spark has one coil pack located under the tank. The twin spark has coil packs located in the heads. The BMW tool is utter rubbish BTW.

If you are careful you can use a flat blade screwdriver to lever the stick coil/ plug lead cap out (depending on model).

Place the flat of the blade under the potions of the plug cap where the special tool would fit. Using the cylinder head as the fulcrum, lever away slowly keeping pressure on to ensure the flat of the screwdriver doesn't slip off.

It's how I remove mine every time. The special tool being plastic is useless.

I quite enjoy the challenge of the plastic one – the risk of severely skimmed knuckles is quite motivating. There is a technique to using it – basically do the reverse of what you think you should – i.e. spread the plastic handles apart rather than grip them. Totally retarded tool though.

The part No you have is for the twin spark stick coil remover. Single spark use the other type.

My 2003 twin-spark came with the wrong tool from the factory.
The first time I tried to use it I struggled for a few minutes and then gave up and used the screwdriver technique (works very well actually).
Some time later I was passing a dealer and I popped in to see if they could get me the correct tool. They did, it cost only a couple of £ and worked perfectly. Been in the toolbox ever since.

I got the plug leads off with a cable tie underneath and forefinger tip under the front of the lead then pull on the tie.

Time for a brutal reality check here.

You're trying to 'do your tappets' but you can't work out how to get a) the HT leads off the plugs or b) the secondary coil packs from the main plugs on your twin spark.....and you didn't know the difference.






STEP AWAY FROM THE TOOLS....GO ASK A GROWN-UP

Thanks for all your input.
Yes they were HT caps & not stick coils, I do know the difference!
Opted for the zip tie technique in the end (1 round the cap & 2 looped in, to pull)
I have binned the tool even though it was evidently the wrong one (thanks Mr Hartley)
Tappets now done.
