The Department des Hautes-Pyrenees have announced the Col du Tourmalet will officially open at 16.30 today.

Less than one week later, Col du Tourmalet is temporarily closed due to snow falling in the mountains, so if you are heading to the Pyrenees check your route as snow is forecast for the next couple of days!

Well worth the visit

Here are some photos of the Col du Tourmalet taken in September 2012 - no snow of course.

Cycled up it last year on our Pyrenean Coast to Coast. Weather want't so flash though! Rain and cloud all the way up and down. Thanks for posting the pictures, we never did get to see it in all it's glory.
