Cold start problems

When were the valve clearances last checked?

It is a twin cam that has done 15K miles .
My Twin cam has done 82K miles and one shim has varied by 1 thou in all that mileage, so did not put that down as an early consideration.

I have had a quick look through the data. One file has no info the other is at 1400 M/s sample rate which allows for a general impression.
Air temp sensor ok , Lambda sensors look ok. Idle actuators ok. Difficult to see TPS as the throttle is having to be moved so much to keep it running, however it goes to 0% after 19 seconds and idles.
I would defiantly change that fuel it has every chance of being your problem then reset the adaptations to start from scratch.

Many thanks for this, it’s much appreciated and probably saves me a lot of headaches and cash :thumb2

Still finding my way around the GS 911 so that will be the first blank file and first start attempt which went along the lines of bike turned over and eventually started then stalled, re started and let run for around a minute, gently touch of throttle and stalled.

I’ll get the old fuel out and get some fresh in and update on how I get on :thumb2

I seem to remember that this model doesn’t have an actual fuel filter and it’s built into the pump?

There is a bag/ screen on the pump inlet which can be cleaned and there is a screen / filter after the pump, sealed in the top part of the pump housing.
A number of us on here have drilled through the screen and fitted a remote fuel filter I originally used a Golf GTI filter but am now using an R1150GS filter which is a bit smaller.
At the mileage your bike has done unless the tank has been badly contaminated ( evident from the rubbish in the bottom of the tank and on the inlet screen). I would not have thought it a problem, if the bike is a keeper then a job for the future.
I think it best to start with fresh fuel and reset adaptations with the GS911.

Ok I took the tank off and emptied all of the fuel, went to the local BP and filled up a petrol container with a gallon of 97. It still struggled, but I imagine that may be some of the old fuel left in the pipe work, but did seem to allow me to gently blip (although stalled the first time I tried) I let it run for a few minutes and was idling ok. Tomorrow I will start her again from cold and see what happens…..

May just need a good run now, but that won’t happen until I’ve trailered it for an mot and got it UK registered.

UPDATE

Looks like the problem was crappy old American fuel :thumb2 have just been out and started from cold, let it run for 10 - 15 seconds and with very little hesitation can blip the throttle. Many thanks for all of your input and help especially Mistacat :thumb2:thumb2
