so my dad recently got his test and bought a new H-D sportster and is wanting to be able to use it for bike-to-bike with his mate, as well as be able to take and receive calls & listen to tunes on his iphone. he's got no storage space on the bike for autocom and so is looking at other possibilities. scala is one, but he's uncovered this http://www.collett.mb.ca/ crew from winnipeg in canada who have an interesting product. i told him i'd flash it across this forum as all y'all represent the best of the collective biking genius of the UK (and beyond). anyone any experience or light to throw on this?

You'd have to check, but I think they'd almost certainly be illegal for use in UK or Europe - we use different frequencies than there.

Best case scenario - it doesn't matter 'cos nobody here uses 900mhz and he'll have superb reception 'cos that band's free...worst case scenario, he screws emergency service/military comms and ends up inside on terrorism charges

PS Rumours that I may or may not use American spec Garmin Rino high powered walkie talkies that use utterly illegal American frequencies very successfully with no problems are just that until proved otherwise

Hi Fanum, quick question about these rumours. If lets say someone was rumoured to be using such radios, do you think they would be able to get the necessary accessories, i.e. PTT buttons, headset kits and where pray tell do you think they could be found, presuming of course someone was looking for them?

Using unlicensed, out of band radios is antisocial and irresponsible. I'm sure you don't condone illegal open pipes on bikes or the irritatingly loud stereos that some people have in their cars. By using illegal radios at high ERP, you are effectively doing the same thing, you are just plutting with radio interference rather than noise.

Just because you can't see or hear the interference you are causing, doesn't mean that it is not happening and causing real problems to legitimate users of the band.

It is unlikley that you wil be caught an prosecuted. However I would suggest you consider whether you are acting reasonably or selfishly.

Fully legal in the UK works with three bluetooth devices simultaneously (or hard wire MP3's two ways etc if needed) BTW it will link wirelessley to another rider up to 150mtrs away, without the need to use the option of two way radio.
