Colour Changing Plastic parts

Just curious, if one were to change the colour of a bike. Are the plastic parts on an R100GS ( side panels fairing mudguards) made from colour coded plastic or are they all just painted. Makes a difference as if the paint gets scratched or peels the different colour plastic underneath will show up readily.

Every one I've painted has had black plastic panels which have been painted.
