Morning,
Been lurking on here for a while & like the idea of a GS.
I have an old low mileage '97 R1100RS which I love & may trade for a newer GS 1150.
Not interested in riding off road, just want to use it for the odd tour & commuting.
Will the newer bike be better than what I already have?
Cheers,
Geoff.

Hi Geoff, as a former 1100RS owner, I much prefer the GS. The RS is a great bike, like all BM 'R's, but I find the GS more wieldly at low speeds and in tight corners, despite having a higher seat. It gives the GS a bit of a hoolie feel after the stolid RS.

It may be a psychological thing, but the GS wide bars make me feel like I'm controlling the bike, whereas with clip-ons I feel like I'm clinging on for dear life.

The 1150 GS also gives you a tall 6th gear for cruising. If you do long motorway stints, you might find the upright GS stance a bit more fatiguing than the RS's aero tuck.

Other than that, the dominant traits of engine, steering, handling and braking are (not surprisingly) very similar in feel and you should feel immediately at home on a GS. The bonkers switchgear, comfy seats and real-world tank range are all present and correct too.

If you luv your RS, have you considered an R1100S (if you can find one these days)
