Bob, if that's the only type of riding you do, there's another alternative you may want to consider. I had the stock foam in mine replaced with closed cell foam, which aftermarket seat makers like Corbin and Sargent use. Closed cell foam makes the seat much firmer, and doesn't cut off the circulation like the overly soft open cell foam. It cost me only $50 to have a local upholsterer do the job. It transformed the shoddy stock seat, which I was only comfortable riding for about an hour, to one I could ride in relative comfort for five hours. The seat contours were not altered, so there was no resulting increase in seat height -- only an increase in comfort.

The Airhawk is hideously ugly compared to an aftermarket seat, but it has the virtue of being very easy to roll up and hide in your tank bag or panniers when you don't need it. Best of all, it cost me only a fraction of what I'd otherwise have to pay for a Corbin or similar product.

True bliss. GS seat in low position (for me to make up for the added height), Airhawk on seat, Alaska Leather Sheepskin (cut to fit GS seat) over the Airhawk (holding it in place while hiding the Airhawk). :D

Right, so many answers and still so many questions! It boils down to Corbin/Meyer for the fit it and leave it brigade or Airhawk for the more cash conscious possee?

Still no nearer making a decision!

I've done a 14 hour day on a standard ADV seat with an alaskan butt pad on.....not a problem.....the thing that made me take breaks was my legs getting stiff rather than bum-comfort.

I suspect the only thing you can really conclude from all of this is that we all have different shaped Bums that suit different seat solutions and what suits one won't be any good for another...I've done a few hours on a corbinned 1150 as well and it was a relief to get back on the ADV.

If anyone wants 1" thick closed cell seat foam, PM me, it can be bought near Oxford.

I've only tried it on sportsbikes, quite comfortable but not cheap. Has many uses as it can be cut, filed & sanded by hand. I've used it for mounting shock reservoirs etc.

I had a Corbin on my 1100 which I found EXCELLENT! I am 6ft and quite long of leg but to make the Corbin work for me when riding in traffic I had it set on the low seat setting. It was a perfect solution.

However...............now have a new ADV and am nervous of Corbinising because I fear the increase in the seat height would make the bike feel unstable at the traffic lights........DOES it raise the height on an ADV??

I am not much impressed by the standard seat and neither are my passengers ........
