BMW Factory Comfort Seat

Hi, Just wondered what people buy to replace the comfort seat or stop it being so uncomfortable? I came from a R1250 GS to a 1300 with standard height comfort seat and after an hour it's dreadful, never had an issue with the 1250 seat, rode hours on that one. I need to sort this out. I've seen covers, air seats that strap onto the seat, but what actually works please and at a reasonble price. Thanks

How we fit the bikes is such a personal thing.

I was feeling it on my 1300GSA 'comfort' seat after about 20mins. I raised the front of mine and took 10mm off the rear lugs to get it even flatter, that was a significant improvement, but not as good as the 1250GS. I then tried the low comfort seat, with the same changes. It is firmer, that was a bit better again. I can now do a couple of hours, but don't fancy a whole day on it.

From searches on here, there's a mixed bag of results. I currently have an Isotta comfort seat on order. Pyramid are their UK retailer. They have a decent reputation on here. Delivery to me is about 2 weeks away yet, so can't give my results.

Iweny with a Wunderlich seat and it transformed it.i had forgotten how much of a difference it made until I recently had a loaner which reminded me. Keep an eye on here on eBay for a used one.

Im on my second Russell Daylong daylong seat and it amazingly comfortable.

I went with Wunderlich's kit which raises the front which almost eliminates the forward slope. It's a definite improvement for not much money. I'm still considering buying a complete Seat Concepts seat to use on longer rides. The riders bucket is 2" wider and actually a little higher on the sides rather than being crowned. They're not heated though.

Comfort seat is a misnomer, the 'comfort' refers to heating. I bought a Sargent which is good. I don't think you will find a solution for a 'reasonable price'. Even second hand quality seats are not cheap. Console yourself that one will sell for a reasonable price once you have finished with it.

I don't think you will find a solution for a 'reasonable price'. Even second hand quality seats are not cheap. Console yourself that one will sell for a reasonable price once you have finished with it.

I've found that a comfortable aftermarket seat, for a common motorcycle like a GS, is easy to resell which recoups most of what you paid for it. It helps if the seat's black so avoid colored piping and stitching. $425 might not seem a reasonable price but $150 is when factoring that it can later be sold for $275. Unfortunately you're generally out the entire cost if you have your seat modified.

Yes unfortunately, fortunately I have long legs and I can reach the ground and it gives me a little more leg room when riding.
i tried the Wunderlich one at the ABR and it seemed to be comfortable and a lot lower

Yes, building bikes for over a 100 years and can't make a comfortable seat for the GS/GSA (are their other models as bad?). I recon they have shares in Sargent and Wunderlich. Surely the only explanation?

every BMW bike I've had has a truly terrible seat over 5 different models - but the option comfort high is really taking the piss - its unusable even for 10 minutes - and they always have a terrible screen too, the most startling thing about a 1300GS with the screen as low as possible its almost bearable - a world first for them

I often wonder if its the heated seat element that adds to the discomfort?
Mind you I get an aching arse sat on my sofa if I sit there for long enough.
There can't be many motorbike seats that are all day comfortable,plus it depends on the rider too.

I ordered an Isotta heated low seat for my GSA, from Pyramid in the UK. Unfortunately, it didn't arrive in time for my tour of N Wales last week. The stock low 'comfort' seat was more comfortable than the stock standard height 'comfort' seat, but only worked for about 40 minutes.

On my return, my Isotta seat had arrived. I've just tested it for over an hour. Very happy with it. Nice materials. I still need to set the front on high and rear on low, to get a comfortable position. Generally, I find the seat pan leans me forward too much. Less so on the Isotta. It cradles me more and, although very slightly thicker than the stock low seat, when stationary, I can still stand flat foot with both feet, which I prefer. I think I've solved my seat problem, shouldn't be necessary, c.£380 delivered, but worth it.

@Tyzer: I could ride all day on my 1250RT without thinking about my seat. Ditto the 1250GS, once I added the eccentric rubber risers for the front. I am amazed how very poor the 1300GSA is, out of the box, for comfort.

My experience is BMW seats were among the best all the way up through airheads. The worst I've ever experienced was on a 2007 R1200RT.
Leveling the "comfort" seat on my 1300GS has helped but it's still not great. I feel the problem is that it is crowned side to side. The rear half of the riders seat should be dished like the good aftermarket seat makers do, as well as chair makers for that matter.
