Firstly, many thanks for your all comments. I decided to go for the GS ...........

I Know .. I Know !!!!!! you're going to say should have been the GSA !!!

I won't be going off-road with the GSA or GS - I don't need the fuel range (the bum wouldn't stand 300+ miles non-stop anyway) and finally I'm big enough to give a large presence on the road.

Don't worry about what others say you should have gone for, you're the one buying and riding the bike so you have to go for whatever YOU like best

I had a 2008 GS with all the toys, ESA, etc, and loved it.

In 2009 whilst mine was in for a service I took a GSA out for the day and found I liked it much more than my GS. Personally I found it much more 'planted' on the road and didn't think it was any less agile than the GS. I decided there and then that eventually I would have a GSA but couldn't justify changing at that time. In April 2010 I took out the latest model GSA for the day and fell even more in love with this model and was determined I would have one. At the end of the year, when there were some good deals to be had, I traded in my 2008 GS for a 2010 GSA, though I bought a Sargent low seat to give me an improved 'touchdown' when stopped.

There are so many different opinions on the two models so your best bet is to go and try both at your local dealer and get what feels right to you. Whatever you do, get one with ESA, I have this on my current bike and had it on my previous GS and K1200S. I found I use it all the time to change the suspension mode the the type of riding I'm doing and the type of roads I'm on.

Had 08 GS loved it. Spent £1000 on extras but it still wasn't a GSA. Sold the bits and got most of my money back then bought a 09 GSA, love it more than any bike ive ever owned (there are many). Great road preesence and handling. Just added HD lights (Adventure Bike Warehouse) off on a ten country tour to Eastern Europe in June and can't wait. If any doubt at all get the Adventure it works out cheaper in the long run.

That's a comment I read a lot and it never makes sense. There's no rule that says you have to do the 300 miles in one go. Do you fill up the car every time you go out in it?

Filling up is a time consuming PITA and if I can do it every 3/4 days instead of every other day then a 300 mile range is a godsend.

Not to mention the the 3 or 4 times a year I'm up the top of scotland on a sunday...

As well as the wind protection the GSA feels a lot more planted to me. It's not as quick to steer as the GS but down the type of roads that I enjoy it feels a lot more stable at speed.
