From a friend who has joined the blue side....

"I was hoping to 'leverage' your expertise and opinions with respects to intercom on the motorbike.
Core functionality pilot to pillion voice and satnav instructions - both instructions to the pilot if you think about it :-)
Optional facilities are:
Phone integration via blutooth
Music - hosted on satnav or phone

Not really looking for PMR or interbike comms - unless it is easy and/or part of a bundle.
Helmets are Scorpion and Shoei - we are thinking of upgrading the lids to Shoei Neotec.
Would prefer wireless where possible."

The satnav is a BMW Navigator 5 mounted onto a 2015 GS Adventure TE.

Any thoughts - I use Autocom and love it.... but he would prefer wireless

I have Autocom with the bluetooth thingy which gives me the NAV 5 functionality, music directions etc as well as rider to pillion coms on top of which i also use Kenwood PMR.
I personaly do not think that this set up can be beaten once installed so that would be my advice.

I get that wireless options are available and sound on the face of it the best option but i think that in terms of price and rock solid dependability Autocom is the way to go!

I have a Sena SMH10 headset (the SMH5 is similar and cheaper)

The Nav V only supports wireless audio (Bluetooth). Wired audio is only available via some form of Bluetooth intermediary device (in the case of Sena the SMR10)

Do this
  • Pair Phone to Nav V
  • Pair headset to Nav V
  • Load music onto SD card in Nav V
  • Pair Pilot headset to Pillion headset

Pilot gets, Nav Instructions, Music and Phone calls
Pillion gets music (shared from pilot if headset supports it)
Pilot and pillion get comms to each other

Hi Newboy
If you want both rider and passenger to have comms, sat nav and music, the only option at this time is Sena 20s, sena SH10, if you have standard BMW Nav mount it is not possible to hard wire the SH 10 but if you just use the simple mount you can Bluetooth both 20S units to SH 10 then hard wire to Nav5. Music and phone to Nav 5, both can hear all functions.
If you have BMW mount you can use an Autocom BT 02 Bluetooth device to link SH10, this will also give all functions

Not cheap but very good

God luck

I have the BMW nav IV mounted on my gsa oil cooled and ride with the Neotec hats. We invested in the purpose made scala bluetooth system and it links in effortlessly with the navigator. Its a great system that is easy to use and really clear to hear and has a fantastic range, when the wife rides off on her bike we have a good mile range where we can chat without and trouble. It will link in to the nav and phone etc if required.
