Out for a nice bimble along the back roads of Lancs when all of a sudden traction control, ABS & hazard warning lights all light up. No response at all from anything on the LH switchgear or thumb wheel. All that works is the auxiliary light switch. It’s as if a connection has come loose. Anyway bike recovered home and I’ll have to get it recovered again tomorrow to BMW

I’ve only had it 3 weeks .
And it’s only 6 months old.

My last one had 2 left hand and 2 right hand sets of switchgear in 34 months , luckily none left me needing recovery but would have been an utter PITA if it happened when abroad on holiday

I thought they had fixed that problem as hadn’t read about a handlebar switch gear failure recently. My K1300S had both sides changed under warranty and my GS just the LH one when it was relatively new.

Apart from not having any ABS or traction control was the bike still rideable ?

Yes everything worked apart from the switch but I’d no indicators and the Hazards wouldn’t turn off . I was wary of riding a bike showing a traction control & ABS fault for 50 odd miles. If I’d been close to home I’d have ridden it back.

Because the thumb wheel isn’t working either I doubt it’s just the switches.

I find it weird that the bike lights up like a x-mas tree due to switch failure. Usually when the switches fail the opposite happens.

A long-shot on my behalf: Try to disconnect the ground cable on the battery and let it rest for 15 min, then reconnect.

Tried that. It turned the hazard lights off but everything else stayed the same.

I’ll find out tomorrow, well the day after.
Bike starts fine if left for a week.

There is a fuse under the riders seat which if removed gives similar symptoms. I used it to fit a piggy back to supply a switched live & forgot to replace it when I removed all the extras. Might be worth checking the fuse.

You mean the fuse that I used to fit a piggy back fuse same as you. :blast

I did give that a wiggle but the symptoms still remained. I'll take a proper look tonight.

that’s the one. When I forgot to refit it, my dash was lit up with all sorts of faults.

If ya near enough to me I’ll happily put it on my professional GS 911 to see what it shows up?

A little late on the reply, but I have both K1300s and GSA. Had one issue with cruise not working on the GSA during rain. WD in the switch gear sorted it.
In 4 years of ownership and riding in all weathers I have no problems now I regularly apply WD 40 ( with cloth underneath until finished dripping )

Might help you, might not - but switchgear don’t like the wet or damp if not sealed correctly.

But I might just be lucky over the 40k miles they’ve done and this has nothing to do with the issue.

Like I say. It was the fuse. All fine now.

If it blows again, there’s a reason. They are there to protect the circuit so keep and eye on it
