That's my New User Name,

Well chaps on here helped me with Nav 4 Routes that I gaily put on my brand new Nav 4,

Got off the Ferry in Spain and no bloody Maps, routes yes, even fuging traffic cams but no maps.

Checked Map Info. says 3d maps Europe and little tick and 2d maps UK n little tick,

The box it cam in says Preloaded maps for Europe.

It's luck to still be alive...

So you didn't check before you set off`? How do you even know that the routes end up where you want? We just had a group through who went to the wrong town in Germany because the didn't check. As in the UK you can have several places with the same name.

Sounds like it is only picking up the UK maps, have you tried un-ticking the UK map box, maybe even un-ticking both and then switching the thing of and starting again. Other than that if you know your Garmin account details it will be possible to download the maps direct to the device if you can get the use of a PC with an internet connection. We have done this here several times for guests who have not loaded the correct maps before departing. Good luck

John

Didn't have to with the G 220, and I could see all routes just as they show on a UK route, and just how they show on the 220.

Blxxdy Thing wish BM had never fitted the GS with a cradle I loved my 220.

3D maps aren't actually maps at all, just 3D data for buildings, eye candy IMHO and not really worth having.

You should always test run routes in simulation mode if you're unsure if the mapping data is on the GPS.

Don't suppose you have a netbook with you...

Various way to fix it

Sorry to hear about your trouble.
As said above, these days the device contains lot of Eyecandy junk, while the real maps fall behind.
Each Garmin (or BMW) device have different maps preloaded. One is the World base map, which contains just the very very basic road around the World. Then comes the City Navigator (what you have trouble with) and then come the 3D maps, which your don't really need now.
If you have multiple maps on you device covering the same area, you can switch it on and of, so the map is displayed or not.
I would try to untick your maps (2D + 3D) and see what happens. Then you switch the 2d on and see if it comes up.
If not, you should connect device to your PC and install the maps to your device. Dont install the whole Europe as it takes long, but try just Spain.

Additional temporary fix would be converting route to track (on PC), load track to your device and let it navigate you according to the track. It won't show you the map, but will shouw you the curve (road) you should follow.
It is not ideal, but better than nothing.

There are some other ways how to try to get your maps running, but if you have other ways of navigation, just concentrate on senoritas :) and enjoy your trip rathet than waste time with gadgets...

AS If..

So, pray tell ............did you go Spain - hoping that your new SatNav would do its stuff?:nenau

I'd already put routes on two 220's of the guys I was taking with me alsohad paper maps in me pocket JIC

But as it happened I could remember most if not all the tours I had planned from Riding Rita Days., Satnav was just a back up.

Loved the Mobile camera alerts pinging away tho
