It would appear that the clicks and similar sounds on my pc have changed into jingle type sounds, and even the 'voice' functions of Microsoft Sam on the Control Panel sounds like somebody running their nails down a Chalkboard, has any of you pc buffs got a fix for this.
I'll swop it for an easy trailride around North Wales....:augie

right click desktop>properties>themes tab

make sure you don't have "jungle" or something selected.

or try...

start>control panel>sounds & audio devices>sounds tab

set sound scheme to windows default.

wtf......?

WTF is Realtek AC97?
It seems to be the only voice or noise command/option that I can choose when looking to change my options on the souunds via Control Panel?
I'm upping the reward here to a full on rweally difficult ride around Dolgellau, including a ride over The Motorway.

Realtek AC97 is your Audio Device (a soundcard built into your computer's motherboard).

Don't be distracted - get back to Cookie's advice :D

The reference to Realtek AC97 is to do with the sort of sound card or chip that's being used. Your PC can have multiple sound cards, so Windows gives you the option of which one to configure, before going to the other settings. If you've only got one sound card then that's why there's only one option available, unless it's gone really pear shaped and something's been trashed along the way.

Do the sounds sound like something's changed, or do they sound like something's broken? If the sounds are just different, it's likely that you just need to change the theme, as mentioned. If it sounds broken then it's likely to be more fundamental.

Any idea when this happened - did you add some software recently, or has someone else in the house been playing?

Clicks are no longer clicks, but ching-changs, and youtube videos are just shrieking noise, as is Microsoft Sam's voice when testing the voice system.
No software has been added, as we only use this laptop (Toshiba EQUIUM M70-337) to access the internet, and recieve emails.

You might try an XP 'system restore' (assuming you're using XP !).

Failing that, 'System Properties' > Device manager>Driver>Sound, video and game controllers>Realtec AC97 audio and rollback driver. If that doesn't work try updating the driver....via the Realtec website :)
