Confused RID/petrol gauge

whenever I fill up with petrol, in indicator decides that the tank is empty. Sometimes it will briefly show full before dropping to one bar - it will be one bar before leaving the petrol station.
After about 50 miles it seems to sort itself out and will jump back up to one/two bars off full and read OK from then on.
It not really a problem, but anybody had a similar problem.

there's an interesting little post on ADVrider that might be of some use!!

He doesn't have the exact same problem as you... but who knows - it might be useful.

plus - Was the fuel filter changed just before the problem started?.
The re-installation has to be done quite carefully or there is a chance of the float assembly being distorted and fouling on the metal or pipes.
