Have owned Quest 1, since Oct 04,
Apart from the odd blip, has been really reliable,
But i still have v6 city navigator loaded,
After my last trip to France have decided its about time to update,
What is the latest version that is compatable with the quest 1 ?,
NT or not NT ?
And where is the best place to buy ?

You might want to check out the map size difference Gary.......

I'm still on v6 'cos later versions are a lot bigger per map....I can live with the slightly out of date info 'cos I can fit everything I need on it.

The software isn't the problem either...you can borrow someone else's discs..it's the unlock code you need which afaik is only available from Garmin.

Try putting a 'wanted' up in the fs&w section..you may find someone who's changed to a tom tom or something who will let you have their copy;)

City Navigator Version 9 has just been released. Although it's not on their website, you can order the disc from Garmin.
Not NT. The Quest 1 is not compatible with NT
Order an update DVD from Garmin direct. http://shop.garmin.com/cartography/mapsource/update/default.asp?L=EN
It will cost you around £50.

The map tiles are larger than in V6. But, I wouldn't let that put you off; you can still fit plenty on a Quest 1.

The map tile issue is a problem for the Quest but only when contemplating long continental trips. The whole of the UK plus a bit of France (or whatever takes your fancy) will still fit on as of City Navigator v8. I posted results from a theoretical trip on a thread over on the VFR site that illustrates the issue.

For the best of both worlds you can update to the latest version and use that day to day and then for those long tours either revert back to using City Select v6 or alternatively get hold of a copy of MetroGuide Europe v8 and use that in conjunction with MetroWizzz which makes it routable. Only issue is it doesn't recognise roundabouts and will tell you turn left or right, in this scenario you just need to glance at the screen to confirm (roundabouts are shown, just not voiced as in CS or CN). I've tried this and it works.
