As some people have pointed out, its a pain to keep taking the back off the unit to get to the USB socket. Seems like it will easily break or leak water if not careful. I noticed the car mount has a USB on it, has anyone tried using that to connect the Zumo to a PC? I was nervous about trying it in case the power from the USB fries something!

Just tried it, it doesn't seem to do anything, doesn't charge the Zumo and doesn't auto connect to the computer so I would guess it's just for the traffic alert aerial and thats it.

How often do you need to take the back off?

It's a simple clip affair, on one side, with a crude 'hinge' on the other.

The device charges in its cradles.

It does not matter if the battery goes flat. It takes weeks to go flat when the device is turned off.

So that only leaves downloading / uploading routes / tracks / favourites to the PC. Not an hourly / daily affair, I guess?

Well, in theory I update the speed camera file twice a month from the Pocket GPS World data base.

I might want to keep an archive of the Tracks of my rides every weekend, and then there are the routes for each weekend ride I do that I need to upload.

So perhaps four times a week, which could be once a day if I was very keen.

So although I'm not that bothered, the door seal could give up within a few months.

The USB connection on the Car Mount would have been the obvious solution for Garmin to provide for 'heavy' users ?

Anyone tried the Bluetooth connection to a PC/laptop?

I will when I get home from holiday.

The zumo only appears as a handsfree device for use as a 'headset' via the speaker.
. . . silly Mr Garmin - a good opportunity missed there

Ok Guys and girls this is what happened to me using the mini USB socket in the bracket...
I have returned 2 Zumo 660 devices because I thought they did not charge, apparently the mini USB on the Car mount got fried after 2 hrs of charging either using the AC adapter or the computer connection.
Garmin said they will send me a new bracket if I send them the old one first.
I decided to return the unit to the web company ...very bad first imporession and this was the same for 2 units I got from them
