connecting fused cigarette socket to battery

Hello,
So hey, I am purchasing a 12v/120w ( = 10 amp) fused cigarette socket directly to the battery, to plug in some accessories.
I have searched the forum on connecting directly to the battery, and get returns of:

It will reset the service indicator
No it won't.

I have 1 2008 gsa so when I disconnect the battery to connect the terminals what are the chances of getting a service indicator on my clocks.

Yup, I know I could just suck it and see, but best forewarned and all that.

Just go for it.
I have an 06, replaced the battery and connected accessories with no issue what so ever :beerjug:

dont think theres any chance personally, have disconnected the battery often when adding e.g. sat nav mount, with no issues at all, 2008,2010 and 2012 bikes.
 
There will be (I presume) a CMOS RAM capacitor or low powered battery to hold the settings in the ECU in the system.....

Translated, that means that the 'memory' of the ECU, which holds the service record and throttle position sensing and indicator preferences etc etc, will all be stored in an independently powered memory chip.......

Just disconnecting the battery terminal for a few seconds or even minutes to attach a terminal to it shouldn't make any difference :comfort
 
Dave I have disconnected the battery several times and never had a problem. As you know mine is a 08 as well.

Fanum is absolutely right. All of your bike's system settings, including engine mapping, software updates, mileage and service information are written to and stored within the bike's ECU in a way similar to that of a solid state hard drive. The ECU doesn't actually need power to remember them in much the same way as an SD card from your camera doesn't.

You can remove the battery for a year if you like and and the info should be there when you connect it up again!

I fitted a heated vest lead to the battery last April & disconnecting the battery resulted in the SERVICE message showing up :augie

Yep - me too - but I'll wait until the next service to get it re-set.
