Have recently acquired the above mention bike. As has been commented upon by others across the globe the Sat Nav system using the "Make Life a Ride" app is unstable and unreliable for touring. My query is can you retro fit a suitable independent Sat Nav cradle to the RT that will accept a Garmin 6 Sat Nav? If it is possible any advice as to were to buy and also how to fit, would be appreciated.

As you have found the Sat nav via Connected is far from perfect.
I’ve fitted a Garmin XT to the top of the dash via a simple bracket which uses adhesive and a Garmin adaptor.

From Amazon
Replaces one handlebar mount screw
Can then use a standard mount.

If you don't have speakers you can open the left hand speaker cover (couple of torx) and plenty of room for power adaptor if needed.
The spare BMW ignition powered connector is just below this so easy access to that.

Mine has tubular bars so a bit easier, but used above on my last RT and it was fine.

Other option, if possible, is Fork Stem adaptor.
