connecting gel battery

i recieved one of those gel batterys from motorworks yesterday
but the terminals are different and the leads wont reach is there
a kit or should i get some copper and mangle it to collect the leads has anybody else had to do this and what do yea suggest

Moo,
I got some L shaped brackets from a car store in London and fitted the battery with them, you'll also need to fit a spacer under the battery if its an odessy battery.

When I fitted one to my R100GS, as far as I can remember, it was a straight swap. I'd check they've sent the correct battery for your particular bike.

The only problem was that gel battery was a couple of inches smaller than the original and I had to pack out the battery clamp with foam.

On the Hawker Odyssey website they show a pic of the simple little angle 'brackets' to fit on top of the battery posts. I would have through it's something that can either be found in a hardwear store or something you could knock up yourself.

Nitpicking time. These aren't GEL batteries but ABSORBED ELECTROLYTE TYPE BATTERIES. There is no free acid inside the batteries; all of the acid is kept absorbed in the glass mat separators. These separators serve to keep the positive and negative plates apart. The key difference between the gel cell and the absorbed glass mat (AGM) cell lies in the fact that in the AGM cell all the elctrolyte is in the separator, whereas in the cell cell the acid is within the cells in a gel form. In fact if the Hawker battery were to split open, ther would be no acid spillage". Nitpick over ;-)

Yup, yesterday I swopped the Odyssey PC625 over from my R100/7 to my R100GS-PD. I think I had to bend the steel earth terminal through 90deg to get it to fit onto the battery post, and I will need to pack it out as it's a fair bit smaller. Superb batteries in my opinion (and they should be for the price!)

When this one eventually expires, I may well get the PC680 which has a higher 280amps cranking power and is twice as wide as the PC625.

John, get the lads in the maintenance workshop at work to knock you up a few strips of mild steel with holes drilled in - bend and cut to suit.

thanks a lot lads ive just asked the fitters her to make up l shaped brackets they are 50mm by 50mm should do the job
