Hi all!

I'm busy revising my tech article 'Optimizing and operating the onboard electronic systems R-series, model-year 2013 onward' with more detail, and I realised there was a function I'd missed describing.

Does anyone have direct experience of how the Average consumption for range calculation (CONS R) readout works? The R1200GS owner's manual does not state its working principles.
I'm assuming that the readout displays average fuel consumption for each separate trip, based on a re-set mileage readout at the beginning of each trip, or each tankful. Is this correct?
Or, does it reset the consumption and associated mileage values to 0 after eight hours, in the same manner as the TRIP A readout?

I face this problem in my line of work from time to time. It would be nice if the design engineers actually let the technical-publications department know what was going on from time to time.
The most useful feature in the world is dead weight if the user doesn't know enough about it to take advantage of it.

Mines been at 55 for about the last 1000 miles, started on 48 and has worked its way up over the mileage of the bike.
