conti tck80s

never used them myself, but I have been with people who have in the alps and they could keep up in all but the most extreme twisties. Would be more careful in the wet. Very tempted to try them when my tourances need changing-...

I've just done 11,000 Klm's on my third set on the bike and I've got another set in the garage to put on during the week.

They are quite good in most conditions. When new they feel funny as the bike will drop into corners quicker than a pair of road tyres. One gets used to it in a day or two.

For gravel roads they are nothing short of brilliant, dirt tracks, the same.

Bitumen roads are a different kettle of fish. When new, they are a bit flexible on very tight corners as one is braking, the same applies for accellerating out of corners. When half worn they are as steady as a rock, so to speak. However, they are not as good as genuine road tyres.

In the wet one rides the bike accordingly, but that doesn't mean they aren't good, just not as good.

I know that riding on snow over bitumen is better, did that last winter going over a pass and left the road tyre mob way behind.

In short they are now my tyre of choice. Recently I picked up a spare rear wheel. I have fitted that with a Metzeler Enduro 4 which is a 100% steel belted radial street tyre. When going on a longish road trip I now put the street tyre on, for all other trips I run the TKC80 tyres front and rear.

If you do any dirt at all, it will transform the bike. You can point the front wheel anywhere on dirt with impunity, with a TKC80 is on the front!

Mick.

They work well on the 650s, getting 4000 miles out of a rear, and a little more than double that from the front (21").

They do need to warm up, only 2 or 3 miles, and certain road surfaces can have them moving around a bit.

When new (and cold) they make the bike feel like the steering head bearings have gone! All these wobbly senasations disappear over 40mph though.

Their grip isn't as good in the wet. But I reckon they are suitable for the sort of speeds that you should be riding in these conditions anyway. I've only had slides when I've been riding like a knob!

I can't imagine using any other tyre now. Even if I was forced to ride a 4v twin!

I had TKC's on when I was at the TT last year & the guys I was riding around with were astounded with the handling they gave on the road. Once warmed up, they were awesome & I had plenty of sports bike riders following me who could watch from behind :D I found that they worked quite well in the wet as the rear would always break first, under power, and was always very progressive so you could play with it. It was worst when the tyres were worn & squared off a bit.

All in all, they were my preferred tyre until I put alloys on. Now I run BT020's & can't wait to get back to the IOM this year. I kept last years pair as a trophy 'cos they went all blue around the edges as they overheated & the tread rippled like racing tyres do at the edges.

Oh, & they're cheap as chips too. About £115 a pair but I only seemed to get about 2-3000 miles from a rear.

Are conti tck80 definetly ok for road use?

Yes, got mine on now though they do wear very quickly, i do a lot of motorway riding and I have no complaints, worth the slight ripple effect for when you get off road.
