Contour HD GPS or GoPro Hero?

HD 1920x1080i is actually 960x540 x2 fields upper and lower so it's a composite image on the other hand 1920x1080p are two seperate images at full res.

1280x720p is therefore as good a quality as 1920x1080i and it uses less storage and the camera's are not running flat out...

  what's that mean in layman / idiot speak?

put your hands out infront and interlace the fingers....

so they're making a big picture (fooling the eyes) by having two smaller images joined (interlaced) to make a bigger HD picture.

Progressive is just two full pictures bearing in mind it takes 25 frames per second to make one second of footage....
the interlaced route is easier as the images are smaller and so use less storage and processing power.

My head is starting to hurt reading all this :blast

I just want to give the world some minutes of mundane youtube content not learn about video tech :blast

Why bother asking a question if you didn't want an answer.... you could have asked what oil should I put in it....:blast If I was you like well then I would film it on your i phone4 it's much easier and less booover than a hover... it's even got iMovie on it and it's a total piece of piss to use... no farking about, no buttons no dials just... bish bash bosh... film in it, edit it up, stuff it on youtube jobs a carrot and your away...

all these little camera are crap unless used with a modicum of brains and technical savvy....

iPhone takes the hardwork and thinking out of creativity....

Do they both do that?

but one has the higher frame rate which makes the image stable for riding at speed. the menu on the gopro is abit wanky push button a twice look at window c big number small numbers....:blast just want to film....

there's also other kit which is talked about a lot... and the grip is as important as the camera...

gopro shoot at 30 or 60 fps to problem if your shooting with another camera it's probably set to UK which is 25 fps. mathematically and technically it's not so good. so you need to edit the camera footage down then re scale all the stuff to either a frame rate that's all the same...

the contour will do is but only on 1280x960 which is 4x3 ratio...which causes other problems....:blast

Similar price, different shape, shoot good video

What do you prefer or why do you get the one you got instead of the other? :nenau

I got the gopro for its w i d e a n g l e lens, and really good quality filming at 60fps. Also, each 'still' of a bit of filming is reasonable photo quality.

You can see my crappy experimentation here. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253006

Had a POV1.5 kit,..moved on quite quickly from that. Invested into a Contour720p loved it. Bought two 1080p now,...only downside with contour is you need to add another mic rather than the inbuilt one. Also if you want decent quality footage you need to invest in fast class8/10 memory. People fall foul of using sheeit memory & expecting the images to be amazing.

See my youtube for demo/links for videos of both kit. :thumb

My plan would be to take the net book when I'm away and download the flash card to an external hard drive, and then edit it when back home.

You idea works well... I took a small HP notebook with us this past summer... in the evening or lunch stop we just transfered the videos to the computer then wiped them clean to re-use. After two weeks however... there was not much space left on the hard drive.

Seen that the ContourHD GPS does effectively time lapse :)

Another query, how weather proof is the Contour? Is the waterproof cover needed or just "sensible" addition?

Won't the reduced wind noise be similar if you use the contourhd waterproof case? Sort of like the gopro's except they include it in the package you buy?

The standard case for the Gopro has an open back which you can use up to 160kph so they say. This allows engine noise to come through quite well without a lot of wind noise. Anything over that you can use the waterproof case to block more wind noise.

Well was thinking of getting a Contour GPS as you could use an android phone to check the settings and you could time lapse with it, but had a look at the support forum

No wonder there's some bargains on them, but one seller has a £110 difference between amazon and ebay ? their own site.

So is the gopro an ergonomic & software disaster zone?
