SWMBO has an Iphone 4 and has recently downloaded some tunes (via Amazon) using one of their vouchers.

Trouble is the downloaded MP3 files/tunes won't play on here phone (they appear but are greyed out)

I think the Iphone uses MPEG4 Audio files and a convertion is therefore required.

Itunes enable you to convert from MPEG4 to MP3 but not T'other way around

Does anybody out there know of any free (and simple to use) downloadable software to make said convertion? :bow

Thanks in advance.

...and mp3 files do play on iphones.

there must be some other problem.

could be a sync issue you may need to sync it back to register the audio on your main iTunes setting?

My phone seems to throw a wobbly every now and then...

Thanks all for your input.

I will suggest SWMBO try re-syncing as suggested by Lo-Iq :thumb

Correct :rob

The main issue with file types is when you try to load your I tunes library (i.e. files from from the source file location) onto any other non Apple device.
Non Apple devices will not read MP4's :blast
i.e. SD card for Zumo, that WILL ONLY read MP3's.

Anything downloaded from ITunes Store will be in MP4 format "AAC proetected file".
AND UNLESS you alter the preferences within I Tunes you will rip CD's to Apple formats as well, and\or lower quality MP3's i.e. sub 320 kbps.

I bought a cheap file converter (called File Converter) and now convert MP4's 256kbps to MP3's 320 kbps as required for other devices. :thumb2
