This might get some grey matter thinking, I've searched the web and come up with nothing so far !

I have a Vario top box on my 2009 Gs, I've started to do some volunteer work for the blood bikes (SERV, Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers), and when I'm doing this I'd love to be able to swap off the top box that I use every day for work and replace it with a flat table, that locks in securely to mounting plate on the bike that I can then strap the blood transport boxes to. The size of the box is 49w x 43d x 33h, ideally I'd like to be able to fit 2 side by side, but I can live without that if it doesn't work !

Anybody got any ideas how I might achieve this ?

I look forward as ever to your words of wisdom

Thanks, all ideas greatfuly received.

It depends if you need to retain your rear seat. I don't and removed the high box platform and using a modestly priced (for BMW) kit, was able to move my vario box on to where the seat was. The box and mounting plate can be removed in less than a minute, leaving the clear platform where the seat was.
Have a look at http://http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk/pre-lc-gs--gsa-2-c.asp
They do a few possible solutions for a rear mounting plate, are well made and reasonably priced.

If camping 2 up the (Givi) top box is removed & thick alu plate is attached to the monokey mount to take a big roll bag. Is that the type of thing you've thinking of?

I'll post a pic later

Hi both and thanks for your replies,

I've contacted CYMAR bike bits, sounds like the only option is to bolt on, not really what I want, the monkey solution sounds interesting Phil-H, can you post a pic, I'm intrigued !

All a bit on a go slow now, as I've buggered my left ankle so the GS is gathering dust, along with my blood bike jacket :doh

Thanks,

Simon.

I fitted a Givi plate (metal) to the GSA lower rack. It just bolts on with some metal strips under the bolt heads. The snag was it's right old faff to remove for when I wanted the smaller GSA top box. Maybe it could work with Dzus fasteners but I never got around to doing the working out. The fastener heads would be covered by the box so no security risk. However the GSA top rack still has to be faffed about with spanners as that wouldn't be secure with Dzus.

Sorry about the foot.

I'm hobbling about after putting my foot into a dropped drain cover. OMG no floor - Crunch - Ouch. Badly bruised foot still huts nearly 2 weeks later. Huge blood blister on my left waist where my fat got trapped against pelvis rim. How the heck I managed to do that I've no idea. Givi AF330 screen shattered and bike got scratched where its already scratched so just the screen to replace.

Get well soon.

Ouch !

Thanks for the info, I'll come up with something, my latest plan is to make some brackets with a 3D printer, that will attach to a solid plate, and allow the plate to slip straight onto the Vario mount, either that or get hold of an old busted up Vario and bastardise it !

Hope you're on the mend, I'm 3 weeks in and still using bloody crutches, such a pain in the arse !

Cheers.

I'd be very interested to see that and hear how you have done it.

Foot still hurts if I stand about for too long but on the mend. I must have cracked alone but TBH the pain has never been "THAT" bad.
A kind Tosser member sold me a replacement Givi screen so that's sorted.
The rocker cover is still scarred. I need to get the Machine Art X-Head brackets made and fitted. What a good job the protectors were not on the bike. ;)

How about an alloy plate in the bottom of one case and some anti slip rubber mat to put under the plate when you use it as a table?

I have a 46 Litre Givi Trekker top case which hardly ever gets used. The GSA top case rack extension is a faff to remove and the Givi looks perched on the extension. There will be a solution but it's barely a DIY job without making the OEM case too easy to steal.
