Hi,

I have been pondering changing my Bumble to the later spec fairing at some point. Is this easy and reasonably cheap to do or am I better off enjoying the old girl the way she is? I like the minimalist look, but being a bit of a tinkerer I can't help but have these winter project vibes.

Thanks,

Matt

The first thing you need to do is have a good look on the frame at the steering head behind the headlight. Your looking for two holes in the front of the headstock where the front fairing support is screwed to the head.

If by chance (which is unlikely, because your bike is the older model) you have these holes, you can fit the newer fairing with only the need for a bigger (if one is currently fitted) rev-counter.

Val.

Pity you are so far away - I want to go the other way .

Still , your bits are easier to ship than mine - if you do decide to swap and want to sell the bits I would be interested.

Monty I have been thinking of ,turning my PDreplica back to the original, basically I have everything you require, and you possibly have everything I require. This is my bike,

What a handsome machine you have. :thumb

Is it straightforward to go from one spec to the other? Not sure whether it is just a case of getting the fairing panels, light, bracket, screen, instruments etc and bolting them on?

Not sure what it would be likely to cost to buy all the bits to do the deed.

My bike is a mono 1987 and should have the small clamshell and round lamp ,that is what I want the bike to return to ,I am considering breaking the front end ,and maybe the Tank ,I also have the ( bikini )fairings for the front.

Let me know how much you want for all the kit and we may be able to do a deal. :thumb

No problem Matt, but I will need to know what you actually need ,Rev counter ,Tank ,etc ,one problem would be the Speedo ,would we have to exchange them or are they compatable with both bikes ,Im sure we will have an answer to that shortly ,If you need some photos of the cockpit area of my bike let me know cheers .

Problem is I don't know which bits I would need. I have a standard 1988 Bumble, so I guess to "PD" it I would need the fairing and mount, headlight, screen, instruments, tank... and no sure about other panels etc. It is beginning to sound like a major job.

I am not sure if I could buy the fairing panels, screen, light and instruments and then just to a straight swap over, keeping my tank etc. I am not in a massive hurry so I am happy to wait for advice from folk who have done this.:thumb

must be something in the air, I decided to change the front end of my Bertha. The twin headlamp setup was a bit heath robinson., I bought a front fairing at the bike show and have stripped off the old one which brings me to what Monty wants to do. As ValH said , you will first have to see if you have the mounting boltholes to take the support bracket. Without this it would not be possible to mount the later fairing without a lot of work. I have found with my job that the wiring loom for the later fairing, which mine should have looks longer than the earlier ones. As space is tight on mine I may have to cut a bit out.
I dont think you will have to use a bigger speedo as the early PDs seem to have had a similar dash panel but with a small rev counter.
Big jets, your bike looks great the way it is, If you two want to change why not just swap bikes, it will be a whole lot cheaper and easier:aidan

I will have a look to see if I have the bolt holes. That seems to be a good starting point. :thumb

Thanks Pastyman ,dont get me wrong I love the bike ,when I bought it I had the thought that the para pd stuff would fund a G/S pd tank which is my goal in life cause thats my dream bike:drool, and that fecker Thunder keeps posting pics of his and its driving me potty.
