I'm trying to convert a mixed on road / off road 'track' into a 'route' in order to be able to view it on my Quest (my understanding is that routes won't display on the Quest?).

Now I've done this before on pure road routes by drawing over the track with either waypoints of the route drawing tool and then saving as a route.

However, when I try to draw over the track on the off road section the route keeps plotting back to the nearest road.

I've tried using the wingdb11 application from the Ensignia site but with no joy.

Am I making it too complicated, how do I use this track I've been given on my quest?

Cheers

I don't have a Quest but I am fairly sure that one of the features of Quest 1 was that it allowed lots of tracklog. If this is the case then you should be able to see the track on the Quest screen.
The 2 Garmins that I have always prompt (this is an option) with the question Follow Road or Follow Off Road when I am using track back. I choose the follow off road which will then take me in a direction if there is a road ther or not.
If I chose the follow road then it will try to take me back to tarmac.
Try opening the menu of the quest.
Going to set up
Open routing
you should then see the option of Promted, follow road, follow track.
Choose Prompted as you will then have the option each time
I can't find a way of converting track to route in mapsource but if you have access to memory map it is a simple option when right clicking the track/route to swap between the two.
Like I said I don't have a quest but I hope this helps.

Thanks Hew :beerjug:

I couln't seem to do that with the Quest but it may well be me as I'm a bit dim when it comes to these sort of things :o

I did however find a 'work around' when drawing a route over the track in Mapsource, preventing it from trying to take me back onto roads all the time;

Under 'preferences' I went to 'routing' and switched from 'auto routing' to 'direct routes' and then used the routing tool to draw me route over the top of the tracks.

A bit long winded but seems to have worked :o
