Convoy to the BMW stand at the bike show...Sunday

Quite agree about the site - why don't they hold it at the SECC in Glasgow:nenau

That Transalp looks really nice and they are just so easy and forgiving to ride. I have liked the Versys since the pre-release photos and had a good look at it yesterday. Not so sure on that GArish green colour though:eek:

The 3 bikes in that rabge I think you have looked at them all would be the Transalp, The Versys and the F800GS. A hard choice between them all but I bet the F800GS keeps its value better. I had my Transalp for 4 years and never had even the slightest thing go wrong with it.

I'm glad you posted a pic of the band as I had no idea who they were - I thought they were a local tribe as I saw them visiting the stands:rolleyes:

We've all been here, but for a while we thought you were another one of Shipman's patients :augie

For anyone who didn't see this on the other Scottish Show thread - you can pass comment on the show to MCN.

This is the e-mail I received today:

We did enjoy the show although the venue a dump....Mud,potholed roads and generally run down- why isn't this show at the SECC FFS?
Don't think we'll be rushing back next year- unless they move the show somewhere better.

The Royal Highland Showground is under threat from Edinburgh Airport's expansion plans (as is my house :blast).

When 'negotiations' are complete (:handbag) it is likely that the RH Show will be moving to a new site on the south side of the Glasgow Road.

No-one is going to spend money on maintaining the existing site under the circumstances.

The site suits me 'cos its within walking distance of my house (though I took the car this time).

You could have brought us all bacon rolls from home instead of sneaking around taking pics of my bike :spitfire

Good excuse to get rid of the horses and free up some valuable bike time though:thumb

Bums...

Where's yer hoose moving to then?

Nowhere yet.

There are two development 'issues' at the moment.

1. Current traffic volumes require additional ground handling space - that's why Edinburgh Airport are wanting the RHS site. This is likely to happen in the near future.

2. In 2003, the Government required all UK Airport Authorities to publish a "30 year plan" so that their requirement could be discussed and any required future boundary changes recorded by the Planners.

Edinburgh say that if traffic volumes increase at their present rate they will need another East-West runway some time in the next 25 years.

The proposed 3rd runway site would be to the North of the current runway, closer to Kirkliston and would mean a lot of land would be compulsorily purchased.

Originally, the proposed Western boundary passed through my front garden - which wouldn't have been too drastic (I have 2 acres so I would still have plenty of ground and grass to cut).

Subsequent plans show the boundary extending to Lochend Road, meaning that the whole farm, plus the 12 private houses, would be demolished.

It may never happen - fears over Global warming, restrictions on air travel, limits on air traffic across the Scottish Central Belt, fossil fuels running out etc. etc. etc.

It does mean that I won't be spending a fortune on 'doing up' my 300 year old farmhouse though :blast

We are all sitting tight intending to ride it out :thumb

We used to keep the horses in the field next to the house and we have a door through the garden wall into the stables. It seemed the ideal solution.

That was far too easy - my dear (£) family have moved the horses to a Livery Yard six miles away where they have more facilities and more opportunity for 'hacking'.

It means that three cars are up and down the road every day (at least twice) and the costs are much higher. Also, I am not on hand to fix anything so have to load tools and materials into the Land Rover whenever there is a problem :blast

Also, the cars need constant suspension and exhaust repairs and suffer frequent punctures from driving over the rough ground around the farmyard.

I keep pointing out that my pension doesn't run to this any more :rob
