1997 R80GS 25,000 miles - Riding out, after about 30 miles I noticed my Garmin 2610 display dimming and then bright! I pulled in for fuel and found my (Hawker) battery was almost flat  managed to get home but in the process the engine temp (measured by the engine dip stick thermometer) reached an unusual 115/120 degrees and the bike started backfiring and cutting out, If I waited 10 mins for the engine to cool and bump started I’d only get another mile before the backfires and cut out brought me to a halt
With the absence of the GEN and a quick check of all the usual suspects, I replaced the rotor (exchange) from Motorworks today and also the diode board (that was ok, but looked like it had been cooking at some stage) all appears now fine :)
Has anyone experienced this temperature of the engine if running without any battery power?
