Bought as a gift the reader seems fine except that to access ebooks adobe digital editions has to be downloaded onto PC and thats were the fun starts!

ADE opens and immediately a message window appears "could not find digital editions folder".....so can not access ebooks to dump into the reader!!:blast

Adobe help (HAH!) is worse than useless, all I can find is a page that mentions this error but says

"Ensure that you have write permissions for the location to
which you redirect the My Documents folder.

Additional Information
_________________________________________________________

Digital Editions requires write permission for the location to
which the My Documents folder is redirected."

not aware I had redirected any folder nor do i know how ensure it has write permissions!!!

as I can get nowhere with adobe, or cooler books....anyone with ideas on a fix....short of binning the whole thing....

I use calibre to manage my ebook collection. It's free and allows you to convert ebooks to the format you want.

hi mate thanks for this, have looked at this software....and to use drm protected epub downloads....sorry to say that calibre tells me I must first authorise my reader on a pc through adobe degital editions!!!
as i cant get that to work, I am still stuck!:blast

ok got fed up with failure on laptop, so dug out an old desktop dell which has been gathering dust in a back room and powered it up, connected to internet, downloaded ADE and glory be, the install worked fine!
so now i have not only "authorised the reader", but successfully downloaded a book into ADE and then on into the reader!:thumb2

why laptop would not work on this I have no idea, maybe its because it runs vista, altho never had any probs with it before!

thanks for the input anyway, will be loading calibre onto the desktop now, just so its all in one place. (as long as it doesnt crash and burn!)
