Thought I'd do a coolant check today. Couldn't get the panels off. Did a search and could only find one thread about breaking mountings!! Any new tips? If you were writing the manual (having had experience of these little plastic devils!), what would you write?

What would I write?

Buy an air cooled bike.

The owner's manual seems very precise in its instructions, with pictures. What is it you are breaking?

Coolant level is visible without having to remove any thing

I guess he was about testing the freezing point, that will be interesting to know...
My garage hits -15 C during winter and I hope BMW has done something right...

Then stop reading threads about things breaking and read the manual instead, it's all explained over two (quite small) pages.

If you really cannot do it, return to your local dealership and ask them to show you. Whilst there, pick up as spares any parts you read about in the thread as likely to break. It may require two trips.

PS How's your noisy engine doing?

If you are on about the plastic rivet, the centre part pushes out to allow the body to contract and pull out. Be sure not to lose the little bit if you want it to be reusable

Many thanks for a constructive reply. The removal of this fifth (the other four being screws) fastener was the problem. How to remove it is not mentioned in the hand book.
