Cooling vests.

I've got the Rev'it Poseidon jacket. Rev'it do a inner liner that you wet and wring out, then fit into the jacket. Evaporative cooling keeps you cool.................. apparently.

Question is.............. Has any one got / tried one ?, and is it a useless gimmick, or is it effective cooling ?

Only for a short time though and that's if you can get water ......... I have a cooling vest and used it a couple of times in the heat during the TAT, kept it soaked in a sealed poly bag with some ice cubes and put it on about 4 hours later when I really needed it and it cooled me for a good couple of hours.

Rev'it claim cooling for 6 hours.................... Beats wearing a wet tee shirt next to your skin.

I'll have to dig it out to remind me which one but it wasn't from Rev'it and I seem to remember for good reason, it's still going to be wet against your skin, that's how they work.

I have the BMW version. Just returned from Spain & Portugal. Up to 35c. It retains the water for about 6 hours. Great cooling effect. Trick is to close all vents and let it evaporate slowly. I usually suffer in the heat but I thought it was brilliant. Well worth the cost.
It feels a bit like being wrapped in a wet towel. A soaked tee shirt would remain wet for about 20 minutes in those temperatures.
