Last August coming home from France I was waiting in the queue to check in for the train ,the temp was in the high 30s if not more on the tarmac the bike was starting to struggle and the oil light was flickering ,this was on a 2011 tc which is oil ,air cooled.I didn’t really have the option of stopping the bike as we were constantly moving ten feet at a time .this got me wondering if it would have helped if I had a small fan blowing through the oil cooler .might it be possible to rig up a hook to hang this fan on in front of the oil cooler .

Have you tried paddling a fully loaded gsa up an incline .

Having suffered the same thing - interestingly at the le shuttle UK side a few years ago on a very hot day in August on my 2011 GSA.
I looked into it.
There was a fan kit made for police RT bikes back in the day to help the situation but as far as I could find, they don’t fit the GS nor has anyone made one that does. They come up on eBay - buy one, make it fit and be a trailblazer !

The fan thing on RT’s is (mildly) popular in America.

In all the thousands of posts on the forum, there is not one telling of a GS / GSA of your vintage, melting down in the queue for the Chunnel, which is pretty much flat.
There are posts from numpties who have put their bike on its stand and left it ticking over, whilst they go inside for the mandatory brew and a kip. On their return they are then surprised to be greeted by the exhaust header pipes glowing red hot and, in extreme cases, the sight glass melting / falling out.

I usually turn off the bike and push it forward until there’s a stretch to ride it

Can't say that I have noticed any inclines, apart from the departure queue lane. Everywhere else on both sides of the channel is flat.
Adding a fan to the oil-cooler would be a very good idea on these motorcyles - best to place it behind just like on a normal water cooled radiator to give it some protection against debris. Not sure there is much space to fit it though, its been years since I had one of those old bikes.
Is the issue more of a 'battery is weak and can't turn it off' type of thing, rather than a cooling issue? Would a new, strong battery resolve your issues as you'd be able to turn the bike off and restart with confidence?
