Copperslip and threadlock

..can they be used together?

I want to threadlock a stainless steel engine bolt, but I want to be able to get it out again. Knowing the issues with steel/ally sieze, I thought I'd put a smear of copperslip on the bolt, then a little Loctite threadlock.

Would that work, or am I about to waste my threadlock? :jibber
 
It isn't recommended, if thread lock is used the threads should be dry & free from oils & greases and where ever possible a solvent cleaner should be used prior to assembly.

Right you are. A thin smear of copperslip and torqued up will be the way forward.

Loctite and grease = no good.

Contact Loctite. They make so many different products for umpteen different applications, they are bound to have one to suit you.

Also, most torque values are for "lightly oiled" bolts, so the torque value changes for bolts using copper slip...
 
Loctite and copperslip or any other fluide simply don't mix and locking won't occur.
If this is a safety critical engine bolt you should be using a suitable strength plated bolt which is compatible with the alum alloy casting. This would then allow the usage of Loctite, (I'd recommend the original bolts and Loctite 242).
