Copy iphone contacts?

Iphone 4 with ios 6.01

I'm getting a new phone soon so wanted to make sure all mu contacts were stored somewhere else so I could copy them onto my new phone.

Looked at icloud and only 20 of my contacts have synced - the sync happens each day automatically and I've made sure that 'all contacts' is checked.

How can I copy my contacts to icloud or somewhere so that the transfer from iphone 4 to iphone 5 can happen without any loss of data/information?

I take it you use a PC rather than a Mac....?

Back up your old phone to your computer, when you have finished the switch on set up of your new iPhone 5 plug it in your computer then it will ask you if it's a new phone say no and all you contacts will be places on it

all my contacts (100 or so) show up fine on the phone but on icloud I can only see 20 even I made sure that 'all contacts' was checked

Are you trying with a cellular connection ? as some iCloud synching only works over WiFi IIRC

Ok, numpty alert - how do I backup to the computer?

Just sync the iPhone with iTunes and tick the copy contacts option

does that duplicate the contacts?

It should copy your contacts from your phone to your iTunes account

i am a bit concerned that as your contacts are not being backed up to iCloud, then maybe they won't get backed up to the PC?

you'll need to check that, but as long as you keep both phones, you should be ok. you can probably use a 3rd party app to extract anything from the phone. it shouldn't be necessary though.

Relax cookie, as long as you select sync contacts to iTunes it will be fine I've done it a couple of times

i've done it a few times myself, but then my backups to icloud function fine too.

itunes and PCs. not happy bedfellows IME.
