Fuuuuuuuck this is driving me mad. My old Winxp PC is about to die, so I want to transfer all my music to my new Win7 PC, but I cannot work out how to do it. I've installed itunes on the new PC, I've copied my itunes library from my old pc, (via external hd) to a folder in 'My music' on the new PC, but the new PC itunes still doesn't show my songs.

Do you think smashing both fu**ing PCs with a sledge hammer might help, as that's my next bloody move!

Please Help

If this helps? The library is just an index so copying the library just copies an index which points to where the mp3 (or other format) files are.

Make sure you set the ipod etc to manual refresh. Open up the hidden files and copy all your music files across to your new computer to whatever file or directory you want. Then manually tell I tunes where the music files are so that it lists them in its 'library'

The issue is that Windows 7 uses a different file structure than XP. Whilst it will appear you have copied your library into the same location (relative), the absolute address of the itunes library is different. Itunes will not be looking in the right place for it's library and will report the "cupboard bare". It's not a fault of itunes or Windows 7 - it's just different.

You haven't lost your library, you'll need to import it into the new install and authorise the new PC to play your purchased items. Don't forget to de-authorise your old PC if you're binning it.
