Corbin saddles

Is the Corbin saddle that good ? if so , why ?
Do they only make the Canyon Dual Sport for the 1150 GS ?
People seem reluctant to put the prices of them on their websites(UK), how much are they and do you need both parts - front and rear ?

Iv'e had a corbin on my r100gs and they are defintely the dogs danglies and worth every penny. Not cheap but better than andrex on your butt

Never had the pleasure to try the corbin on my 1100gs but have not meet anyone who complained about theirs. If you do some searches on the site you will find some info about where to buy and how much although it seems better to import directly from USA.

I've done the research here and concluded that Corbin is the way to go. I'm going for the heated option on my standard R1150GS, there's not much in it price wise anyway.

The ADV DualSport seat does not appear to be available for a standard 1150, but the combined cost (rider + pillion) isn't much different anyway.

I recently obtained a Corbin front and rear for my 1100, it has made a serious difference comfort wise. I got mine on eBay.de for about a third of the new price.

To answer your questions.................

a) They are that good..........because they are firmer and give more support to your butt, also they are bigger and wider than stock seats.........again giving you more overall support.

b) Price............I don't know the new price, but reckon they're about £500-600 new.
However I bought mine for £225 s/hand (front and rear) in perfect nick.........about 5 years ago and have done about 75,000 miles on it (on both 1100 and 1150GS's) and condition is just the same..........it's no worse off than it was when bought and I don't know how many miles it had done before.......

Mine is the Vinyl one and NOT the Leather one.......
and IMHO .....Vinyl option is best.....because it's hard wearing and doesn't leak in rain, as the Leather ones are prone to do.
However I don't think they make the Vinyl options any more.

c) Quality is great, although they don't fit as well as stock seats and because they're bigger you need both parts and rear grab rail is made redundant, as the rear suab fits snugly against it.

Here a pic of my previous 2002 1150GS with the Corbin fitted, so you can see how it fits and how much bigger it is over the standard seat.

Yes but they weigh 30 KG. This is how they saved all the weight on the 1200

If you're leg length challenged then I'd suggest you try one before buying.

I borrowed one for a few weeks and it was brilliant but I really couldn't touch the ground without shifting over to one side of the saddle. Not very safe unfortunately.

I did ask them if they did a lowered version but got no reply

i tried jim mcsharry's in ireland for about 15 miles or so. i thought it was superbly comfortable 'cos it supports under the thighs quite a bit, so less weight on arse.

fair bit wider than standard though as dick says, so bigger stretch to the already distant ground.

pillion is moved about 4/6" back which felt a bit weird to me, but she thought it very comfy too.

I have just fitted a Givi top case to my GS, I am thinking of getting Corbin seats, what alterations have to be made to the metal base plate?

I have a corbin seat on an 1150GS.

I also use a maxia 52 top box.

No modifications needed - but needed to move plate back by 'one set of triangular holes' - this increases the overhang a bit, so be careful with heavy loads. I have used box to carry oxford monster lock, waterproofs etc with no problem and the left helmets in box when parked up.
Damn comfortable - 5 or 6 hour runs are no problem - but I have to stop 'cos I'm home by then.

no idea about the corbin seats on the oilies (although I suspect that with fans like Johnny Boxer, they cant be crap), BUT the airheads ones are very dodgy, and if you go back to what Cookie would call "the Patina era" sometimes they didnt fit at all. I have seen some thatare unbelievably bad. So ill fitting that you would think you had the wrong model. The worst types are the /7 series and esepcially Shite are the catches and generally fit. I shall say no more.

Like I said this is my comment of airheads NOT oilheads.

Tried a Sargent Seat

I've used a sargent seat (another american company). Its about the same price as Corbin, but worth it all! It solved my problems of comfort and seat height. The front seat on its lowest setting is about 1/2" lower. I've sold the bike now but still have the saddle....
