RS paints list the Marakesh red as a metallic, which requires a clear top coat, but BM bikes dont .
There is a possible explanation.
Some quality reds including Honda reds have around 1/2% of expensive Mica, or pearl , which is added to give a little life to the red, and this makes them hard to for auto paint suppliers to match, as they try to use metallic or cheap mica instead of the uber expensive stuff, which reflects the light differently and is simply impossible to substitute.
The paints with 1/2 % good mica dont usually need a clear top coat.
The expensive mica usually goes into paint applied to Aluminium composite cladding fixed to building facades, and this paint is required to have a warranty for 20 years against discoloration, without any polish or cleaning. Good, but expensive, around $30/M2 paint only, or $600- per liter. So Auto paint guys dont want to know, and just claim they cant get the code!
When I repainted my Honda VFR I was in the cladding business, and of necessity we had our own paint company, run buy an expert and we were able to do what no one else could do and match a Honda Pearl - I have a feeling Marakesh red might be just as hard to match , unless of course you are repainting the whole bike and a exact match is not required.
