corroded barrels

The top of the barrels on my 05 GS are corroded and the paint has bubbled and pealed. I was wondering if anyone has spruced theirs up with the barrels in situ? any recommendations on what made in easier and paint used.

Black Hammerite Smooth is the best option. It will handle the heat and its age brittleness should not matter in that area.
