I've seen a 70kMilage RT today, which after reading this forum I'm not too worried about as it's all BMWSH, but there is some corrosion/flaking by the footpegs. Especially the rear one above the shaft drive. Has anyone else had bad corrosion and what/how much are solutions?
The rest of the bike seams ok for it's miles. Seriously considering it. Just want a bit of advice from those in the know.
RT/GS/RT/GS I just can't make up my mind but this has all mod cons..:drool

Mine's the same, was like it when i bought the bike at 26k. I accepted it as the bike was priced accordingly and it's not mechanical etc.

I have/had this corrosion on both my 2005 and 2008 RTs and have had two sets re-coated. The firm that did the work blame the addition of a product to the alloy that makes it flow better around sharp edges when the castings are done

My independent BMW servicer believes that the nearside hanger is more prone as it is bolted to a pick up point for the muffler and the associated vibration. My experience shows that he could be right

Re-coating is not too expensive or difficult as long as you don't let the corrosion go so far that the surfaces have to be filled

Sherlocks have an offside hanger on eBay (160984513360) for £39 that you might consider. Although it has a bit of edge corrosion it could be fairly easily treated then swapped for yours

Another option could be to have them blasted and repaint them yourself with Hammerite

Buy it, it's easily sorted. Don't worry about it at all.

If its got cruise control, get the RT, I've always wanted cruise control :D

I'm sure the alloy can be re painted with rattle cans, but take a look at the exhaust manifold studs and see how they look, some of mine seared off on my old 1100RT, rusted away :D (that was some years ago)

The paint on my exhaust side footrest hanger is starting to bubble, but I'll try to claim it under warranty as the bikes only just turned a year old and hasn't been used over winter
