So took the bike out today life was good and the roads were sweet bring the bike home and do my usual washdown....

Next thing i see a large fleck of paint on the floor :censor: i immediately stop washing the bike but the damage has been done. about 5x4cm of paint on the right of the starter motor has flaked away. bike has been ACF50'ed but stored outside under a cover. always washed after use so salt shouldn't be an issue but hey ya never get it all off. I will try and get some pics up tomorrow.

Get out and check your engines for corrosion!!!!!

anyone got any ideas how i can cover this before rust starts? as a quick fix i ran the motor to dry the area completely then applied a thin cote of chain lube on a rag to prevent rust staring to form.

Regards

Jay

Is it actually corroded? Either way a few lads here recommended painting the section with Hammerite Black Satin, here's the product > http://goo.gl/jg4HR.

Lots suggest their starter motor needed doing, in fact I think mine does too.

I had some paint flake off on the sump. All the paint that has come off my starter motor has been through stone chips.

I got the sump replaced as a goodwill gesture, and did the starter with hammerite. Read the instructions, especially how long it needs between coats!
